Talk:WI Richard Bong State Recreation Area
--Dave 16:10, 20 January 2007 (CST) I rarely ski out here anymore, but I checked it out yesterday and upon seeing the trails were not groomed I stopped by the park office just to confirm that they no longer groom the trails. So it's official, they no longer groom the ski trails at Bong (I think they actually stopped several years ago, but as I mentioned, I don't get out here much anymore).
--Dave 09:09, 6 June 2006 (CDT) I paddled the lake a couple of days ago. The water level was high from recent rain but the weeds were still an issue. My guess is that when the water level drops and summer progresses the lake is going to get choked with weeds.
Other Trail Questions/Comments
Did you see any dog sled teams out there? When my kids were little, I would pile them into the car to see the dogs go. When there was no snow, the sledders would use contraptions with tires to exercise the dogs.
--Dave 20:06, 11 February 2007 (CST) I've seen them hauling in their equipment in the past (I don't get out here a lot anymore), but they don't do this on the Hiking/biking/ski trails where I spend my time. I would assume they do it in the "Special Use Area" (it's not on my map, but you can download the main park map). They do all kinds of interesting stuff out there(in the special use zone), I've seen them launching hang gliders from a rope off the back of a pickup truck. You could call the park office to find out more of what goes on in the special use area.
