Talk:IL Des Plaines River
--Dave 09:12, 24 August 2007 (CDT) We currently have very high water levels on the DPR. The DPR is usually a great place to paddle at high water, but the levels currently are so high that some of the bridges crossing the river could create some very dangerous hazards and some of the more confined channels in central and southern Lake county could result in some swift current. If you want to give it a try this weekend, you should either precheck the bridges (drive by them) or plan to paddle a round trip, paddling upstream 1st (your safest bet). On the plus side, if you do get out an paddle, there will be many places where the river has spread far into the floodplain allowing for some interesting forest paddling, though be aware it will be very easy to loose track of where the channel is.
--Dave 11:29, 19 May 2007 (CDT)We've had dryer than normal conditions over the past month and subsequently what is normally one of the best times of year to paddle (May)has the river as summer low levels. You can still paddle, especially the southern section, but it's not as good as you'ld normally expect this time of year.
